Purpose of the Post
To lead the ongoing development of Tradewind Client School's post-16 curriculum, ensuring it remains responsive to learners' needs and compliant with funding and legislative requirements. This middle leadership role includes classroom teaching and plays a strategic part in shaping high-quality, autism-specific/SEND education.

Key Responsibilities

  • Review and enhance the curriculum to support personalised learner pathways and EHCP outcomes, focusing on independence, employment, communication, and community engagement.

  • Ensure curriculum compliance with post-16 SEND legislation and funding frameworks.

  • Work closely with teaching and support staff to implement improvements and share best practices in autism-specific pedagogy.

  • Monitor and evaluate curriculum impact using data and staff/learner feedback.

  • Teach a reduced timetable, delivering high-quality, engaging sessions and modelling effective practice.

  • Support staff professional development through coaching, mentoring, and curriculum-focused CPD.

  • Collaborate with families, therapists, and external partners for a holistic approach.

  • Contribute to quality assurance and strategic planning as a member of the extended leadership team.

  • Provide direct management of teachers to ensure effective curriculum delivery, consistency, and high teaching standards.

  • Coordinate enrichment activities that enhance learners' personal development, social skills, and engagement beyond core programmes.

  • Plan and deliver accredited units, embedding them meaningfully in wider programmes and supporting internal moderation processes.

  • Follow any reasonable requests from your line manager or Principal.

Person Specification

Essential

  • QTS, post-16 teaching qualification, or equivalent.

  • Significant experience teaching autistic young people with complex needs in a post-16 or specialist setting.

  • Experience of curriculum development or leadership in an SEN environment.

  • Strong understanding of EHCPs, SEND legislation, and post-16 funding models.

  • Excellent leadership, communication, and organisational skills.

Desirable

  • Previous middle leadership or curriculum management experience.

  • Knowledge of RARPA, life skills, and employability frameworks.

  • Additional qualifications in SEND, autism education, or leadership.
