Job Description
Seeking Specialist Residential Support for Secondary Schools in Blackpool
Are you an experienced and skilled Residential Child Support Worker or Youth Worker looking to apply your expertise directly within a secondary school environment (KS3/KS4)? We are urgently seeking a dedicated specialist to join our partner schools in Blackpool starting in January 2026.
This highly specialist role focuses on bridging the gap between residential care and educational settings. The successful candidate will leverage their background in regulated children's homes to support pupils who require complex behaviour management and stability, making a significant impact on their educational attainment and wellbeing.
The Role: Integrating Residential Experience into Education
As an integrated Child Residential Support Worker, your dual focus will involve high-level intervention, mentorship, and collaboration. Key responsibilities include:
Providing intensive 1:1 mentorship and support to vulnerable students, often those transitioning from or currently in residential care.
Implementing and rigorously tracking complex Behaviour Support Plans and therapeutic strategies adapted from a residential context.
Utilizing de-escalation techniques and trauma-informed practice to manage challenging situations in classrooms and social settings.
Collaborating closely with the school's Pastoral Team, SENCO, and external residential key workers to ensure continuity of care and educational success.
Supporting students across the secondary phase (ages 11-16+), focusing on attendance, engagement, and emotional regulation.
What We Look for in a Candidate
We require applicants with formal experience in regulated care settings who wish to transfer their skills into an educational environment. Successful applicants will ideally have:
Essential: Significant prior experience as a Residential Child Support Worker or Youth Justice Worker.
Preferred: NVQ Level 3 in Children and Young People's Workforce or equivalent qualification.
Expert knowledge and practical experience in therapeutic support and crisis intervention.
A calm, resilient, and professional approach, with a deep understanding of complex needs and attachment difficulties.
Excellent communication skills for high-level liaison with multi-agency teams.
A valid Enhanced DBS on the Update Service (or willingness to obtain one).
