Job Description

Role Overview

We are seeking a Registered Mental Health Nurse (RMN) to establish and lead our in-school clinical mental health provision. This is a unique and vital post designed to bridge the gap between pastoral care and specialist clinical services for our secondary school students (ages 11-18) in Blackpool.

You will be the dedicated clinical expert, responsible for providing high-quality, evidence-based early intervention and therapeutic support, managing clinical risk, and consulting with staff on complex mental health needs.

Key Responsibilities:

Clinical Practice and Case Management

  • Triage and Assessment: Conduct initial clinical assessments and risk screening for students referred with emerging mental health issues (e.g., self-harm, anxiety, depression).

  • Therapeutic Intervention: Deliver short-term, focused therapeutic interventions (e.g., CBT-informed techniques) on a one-to-one or small group basis.

  • Referral Gateway: Act as the primary link for timely and appropriate referral to external services, including CAMHS, and coordinate care plans with external professionals.

  • Risk Management: Develop, document, and review robust risk assessments and safety plans for high-risk students in collaboration with the Designated Safeguarding Lead (DSL) team.

Consultation and Training

  • Staff Consultation: Provide expert clinical guidance and advice to the school's Pastoral Team, SENCO, and teaching staff on effectively supporting students with MH needs in the classroom.

  • CPD Delivery: Design and deliver staff training on topics such as mental health awareness, de-escalation, trauma-informed practice, and clinical boundary setting.

  • Parental Support: Offer psychoeducation and guidance to parents/carers regarding their child's mental health journey.

Governance and Safeguarding

  • Safeguarding: Work as a key member of the safeguarding team, ensuring all clinical and pastoral practices are compliant with Keeping Children Safe in Education (KCSIE) and NMC professional standards.

  • Record Keeping: Maintain meticulous, confidential, and compliant clinical records.

Why Join Our Team?

  • Clinical Autonomy: Lead your own service model in a supported educational environment.

  • Term-Time Contract: Enjoy school holidays while maintaining a competitive NHS Band 6/7 equivalent salary.

  • Professional Impact: Significantly influence the mental health strategy and culture of an entire secondary school in Blackpool.
