A highly regarded independent school in Golders Green (Barnet) is seeking a dedicated and nurturing Year 6 Teaching Assistant to provide 1:1 support for a pupil with ADHD and ASC. This role begins in January and continues through to July, with trial sessions taking place as soon as possible.
The pupil is a bright, polite, and caring child who responds extremely well to positive praise, reward-based motivation, and predictable routines. The school is looking for a calm, patient, and skilled practitioner who can help her stay focused, regulate her emotions, and confidently access the Year 6 curriculum as she prepares for secondary school.
Key Responsibilities
Provide consistent 1:1 academic support across core subjects and the wider curriculum
Maintain engagement through positive behaviour strategies, rewards, and encouragement
Support the pupil with emotional regulation, transitions, and developing independence
Work closely with the class teacher, SENDCo, and pastoral team to implement tailored strategies
Create a safe, structured, and supportive environment that promotes confidence and progress
Assist with small-group tasks or classroom activities when appropriate
About You
Experience supporting pupils with ADHD and ASC is essential
Skilled in using positive behaviour management and creating predictable routines
Warm, patient, consistent, and able to build trust quickly
Confident adapting strategies throughout the day based on the pupil's needs
Organised, clear in communication, and committed to supporting a successful transition to KS3
