Job Description
SEMH Mathematics Teacher - Northamptonshire
Via Tradewind Recruitment
Tradewind Recruitment is proud to be working in partnership with a specialist provision in Northamptonshire to recruit a passionate and resilient SEMH Mathematics Teacher. This is a rewarding opportunity for a dedicated professional who is committed to making a genuine difference to the lives of young people with Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) needs.
The successful candidate will be responsible for delivering engaging and accessible mathematics lessons to students who may have experienced barriers to learning in mainstream education. You will plan, adapt and deliver a creative mathematics curriculum that meets the diverse needs of learners, building confidence, resilience and a positive relationship with learning. Class sizes are small, allowing you to focus on individual progress, behaviour regulation and emotional wellbeing alongside academic outcomes.
You will work as part of a supportive, multidisciplinary team that places strong emphasis on trauma-informed practice, positive behaviour support and relationship-building. The role requires a calm, patient and flexible approach, with the ability to de-escalate challenging situations and support students to achieve their potential in a safe and structured environment.
Key responsibilities include:
Planning and delivering differentiated mathematics lessons for students with SEMH needs
Creating a positive, inclusive and well-managed classroom environment
Assessing progress and adapting teaching to meet individual learning plans
Supporting students with emotional regulation and positive behaviour strategies
Working closely with pastoral staff, therapists and senior leaders
Maintaining accurate records and contributing to reviews and progress meetings
The ideal candidate will hold Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) or an equivalent teaching qualification, with experience teaching mathematics at secondary level. Experience working with SEMH, alternative provision or SEND settings is highly desirable, though applications from strong mainstream teachers with a genuine interest in SEMH are warmly welcomed.
In return, the school offers excellent support, ongoing professional development, and the opportunity to be part of a provision where every success-academic or personal-is valued.
