English Specialist Teaching Assistant

Secondary School - Tower Hamlets

We are seeking a committed and enthusiastic English Specialist Teaching Assistant to join our vibrant secondary school in Tower Hamlets. This is an exciting opportunity to support students' literacy development and contribute to high-quality English teaching across the school.

The Role
As an English Specialist TA, you will work closely with the English department to support teaching and learning, both in the classroom and through targeted interventions. You will help students develop confidence in reading, writing, and spoken English, supporting progress for learners of all abilities.

Key Responsibilities

  • Support students in English lessons across Key Stages 3 and 4

  • Deliver small-group and one-to-one literacy interventions

  • Assist teachers with lesson preparation and classroom activities

  • Support students with additional needs, including EAL and SEND

  • Encourage positive behaviour, engagement, and a love of reading and writing

  • Monitor and support student progress under the guidance of teaching staff

The Ideal Candidate

  • A strong academic background in English (degree or equivalent desirable)

  • Experience working with secondary-aged students (school-based experience preferred)

  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills

  • A patient, flexible, and proactive approach

  • A passion for literacy and raising achievement in English
