SEN Teaching Assistant - Northampton
Location: Northampton and surrounding areas
Contract: Full-time / Part-time / Long-term & Short-term roles (via Tradewind Recruitment)

Tradewind Recruitment is currently seeking compassionate and experienced SEN Teaching Assistants to work across a range of SEN schools and specialist provisions in Northampton. These roles are ideal for individuals who are passionate about supporting children and young people with additional needs and who are looking to make a meaningful difference within education.

The settings supported by Tradewind cater for pupils with Education, Health and Care Plans (EHCPs) and a wide variety of needs. These may include Autism Spectrum Condition (ASC), speech, language and communication needs (SLCN), physical disabilities, sensory impairments, and moderate to severe learning difficulties. Some roles may involve 1:1 support, while others will focus on small group or whole-class assistance, depending on student needs and the setting.

As an SEN Teaching Assistant, you will play a vital role in supporting students both academically and pastorally. You will help pupils access learning, develop communication and social skills, and build confidence and independence within a safe, structured, and inclusive environment.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide tailored support to students with a range of SEN needs

  • Support communication development, including the use of visual aids and AAC where appropriate

  • Assist with speech and language therapy programmes under professional guidance

  • Support pupils with physical disabilities, including mobility and personal care where required

  • Promote positive behaviour, emotional regulation, and engagement in learning

  • Work collaboratively with teachers, SENCOs, therapists, and other professionals

  • Help create a calm, supportive, and inclusive learning environment

The Ideal Candidate Will Have:

  • Previous experience working with children or young people with SEN, particularly Autism and SLCN

  • A caring, patient, and proactive approach

  • An understanding of inclusive and person-centred support strategies

  • The ability to work flexibly across different settings and needs

  • Strong communication and teamwork skills

  • A commitment to safeguarding and promoting pupil wellbeing
