We are working with a network of welcoming and well-regarded secondary schools across Northampton who are seeking confident and reliable Cover Teachers to support their classrooms on a short-term, long-term, or temp-to-perm basis.

What Is a Cover Teacher?

As a Cover Teacher, you'll step into the classroom to deliver pre-prepared lessons in the absence of the usual class teacher. Your role is to maintain continuity of learning, manage classroom behaviour, and ensure students remain engaged and on task throughout the school day.

This role is ideal for qualified teachers (QTS/QTLS), Early Career Teachers (ECTs), or experienced educators who enjoy variety, flexibility, and the opportunity to work across different subjects and school settings.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Deliver pre-set lessons across Key Stages 3 and 4

  • Maintain a calm, focused, and positive classroom environment

  • Manage behaviour in line with school policies

  • Provide feedback to subject teachers and senior leadership where required

  • Support daily school routines, including transitions and duties

  • Act as a positive role model and uphold school expectations

Who We're Looking For:

  • Qualified Teacher Status (QTS/QTLS) or relevant classroom-based teaching experience

  • Confidence delivering lessons across a range of subjects

  • Strong behaviour management and communication skills

  • Professional, adaptable, and reliable approach

  • Commitment to supporting student progress and wellbeing

  • Interest in long-term placements or future permanent opportunities
