Job Title: Pastoral Support Worker - Inclusion & Engagement Unit (IEU)

Are you passionate about supporting young people who face barriers to learning and engagement? We are seeking a committed and resilient Pastoral Support Worker to join a school-based Inclusion & Engagement Unit (IEU) in the Wirral. This is a full-time role supporting pupils who require additional pastoral, behavioural, and emotional support to succeed in school.
You will work closely with the school's Pastoral Team, Inclusion Staff, and Senior Leadership Team, providing targeted support to pupils, assisting with internal cover when required, and helping students to reintegrate successfully into mainstream lessons.
About the Role:
As a Pastoral Support Worker within the IEU, you will support pupils who are temporarily removed from mainstream classes or require an alternative learning environment. You will help pupils manage behaviour, regulate emotions, and develop positive attitudes towards learning, while ensuring safeguarding and wellbeing remain central to your practice.
The role will also include aspects of classroom cover, supporting learning continuity during staff absence and maintaining a calm, structured environment.
Key Responsibilities:
Provide daily pastoral support to pupils within the IEU
Support students with behavioural, emotional, and social needs
Assist with internal classroom cover as required, ensuring pupils remain on task
Work with the pastoral team to identify barriers to learning and implement support strategies
Promote positive behaviour, emotional regulation, and engagement with school life
Support pupils with reintegration plans back into mainstream lessons
Liaise with teaching staff, pastoral leads, and senior leaders regarding pupil progress
What We're Looking For:
Experience supporting children or young people with behavioural, emotional, or social needs (essential)
Strong behaviour management and de-escalation skills
A calm, empathetic, and consistent approach
Ability to engage and motivate pupils who may be disengaged from education
A valid enhanced DBS (or willingness to apply for one)
Desirable (but not essential):
Experience working within an IEU, alternative provision, or SEMH setting
Relevant qualifications in pastoral support, youth work, behaviour management, or education
Experience providing classroom or internal cover
