Job Description

Tradewind Recruitment is currently recruiting Behaviour Specialist Teaching Assistants to work across mainstream schools, SEN schools, and Pupil Referral Units (PRUs). These roles are ideal for passionate, resilient individuals who are committed to supporting young people with social, emotional, mental health (SEMH) needs and challenging behaviour.

The Role

As a Behaviour Specialist Teaching Assistant, you will work closely with pupils on a 1:1 basis and in small groups, supporting emotional regulation, positive behaviour, and access to learning. You will play a key role in helping students re-engage with education, build confidence, and develop life and social skills.

Responsibilities

  • Provide targeted behaviour and emotional support to pupils

  • Implement behaviour strategies and support plans

  • Support learning in and out of the classroom

  • De-escalate challenging situations calmly and professionally

  • Build strong, trusting relationships with pupils and staff

  • Work collaboratively with teachers, SENCOs, and external professionals

The Ideal Candidate

  • Experience supporting challenging behaviour and/or SEMH needs

  • Background in education, youth work, care, psychology, or similar fields (desirable)

  • Calm, patient, resilient, and proactive approach

  • Strong communication and teamwork skills

  • Enhanced DBS on the Update Service (or willingness to apply)
