Job Description

Classroom Support Assistant (CSA) - Centre for Autism
Camden | Monday-Friday, 8:30am-4:00pm | £100 per day | Full-Time (Academic Year)

A highly regarded primary school in Camden is seeking a dedicated Classroom Support Assistant (CSA) to join their specialist Centre for Autism for the full academic year.

The Centre provides 30 places for children aged 4-11 with Autism, offering a nurturing, structured and therapeutic environment. Each classroom is staffed by one teacher and three to four Child Support Assistants, maintaining an excellent 1:2 adult-to-student ratio to ensure high-quality, personalised support.

About the Provision:

The Centre adopts a therapeutic and low-arousal approach, with teachers working closely alongside:

  • Speech and Language Therapists
  • Occupational Therapists
  • A Music Therapist

Behaviour - including behaviour that challenges - is understood as a form of communication. In the short term, the focus is on de-escalation and regulation. In the long term, the team works to understand the root causes of dysregulation and teaches pupils more effective ways to communicate and have their needs met.

All CSAs are expected to fully embrace and consistently apply this empathetic and reflective approach.

The Role:

  • Support pupils with Autism within a structured classroom setting
  • Engage actively in play-based learning and therapeutic activities
  • Work closely with teachers and therapists to support individual development
  • Provide regulation and emotional support using a low-arousal approach
  • Support with personal care where required (including toileting and nappy changing)
  • Attend weekly swimming sessions and enter the pool to support and supervise pupils (shallow pool - staff can stand comfortably)
  • Be physically active throughout the day, as the role involves being on your feet and engaging in hands-on activities

The Ideal Candidate Will Have:

  • Experience working with children or young people, ideally those with additional needs
  • A strong interest in Autism and SEND
  • A calm, empathetic and proactive approach
  • A sense of fun and willingness to participate fully in play and activities
  • The ability to work collaboratively within a multidisciplinary team

What the School Offers:

  • A highly supportive and experienced team
  • Excellent adult-to-student ratios
  • Access to evidence-based practices and therapies
  • Ongoing CPD and professional development opportunities
  • A rewarding, engaging and genuinely enjoyable working environment

This is an excellent opportunity for someone considering a career supporting young people with additional needs, or for experienced practitioners looking to develop their expertise within a specialist Autism provision.
