Job Description

EYFS 1:1 SEN Teaching Assistant - Blackpool Academy (Afternoons Only)

Are you a specialist in Early Years communication looking for a meaningful afternoon role? We are seeking a dedicated SEN Teaching Assistant to provide vital 1:1 support for a non-verbal child in an Early Years (EYFS) setting. This role is based at a premier Blackpool Academy that features brand-new facilities and a culture rooted in the Nurture UK principles.

  • Working Hours: 12:00 PM - 3:30 PM (Monday to Friday).

  • Contract: Term-time only, temporary until July 2026.

  • Start Date: April 2026 (Summer Term).

  • Location: Blackpool (New-build Academy with modern SEN resources).

The Specialist Need: Non-Verbal EYFS Support

This is a highly specialised 1:1 position. In the Early Years, communication is the foundation of all learning. You will be the "voice" for a child who cannot yet use spoken language, helping them navigate their environment and express their needs.

Your technical focus will include:

  • Alternative Communication: Expertise in using PECS (Picture Exchange Communication System), Makaton, and Visual Timetables.

  • EYFS Framework: Integrating specialised SEN support into the seven areas of Early Years learning and development.

  • Phonics Preparation: Supporting the school's Read Write Inc. priority by building the pre-literacy skills necessary for non-verbal learners.

The Ideal Character: Who Succeeds Here?

We aren't just looking for a set of qualifications; we are looking for a specific character. To be successful in this role, you must be:

  • A "Deep Observer": Since the pupil is non-verbal, you must be highly intuitive, noticing the subtle cues, facial expressions, and body language that signal a child's needs or frustrations.

  • Emotionally Resilient: You will be working within a Nurture UK framework. You must remain calm, regulated, and patient, even when the child is struggling to communicate.

  • A "Collaborative Learner": You are part of a wider pastoral team. Success in this role depends on your ability to listen intently to the Class Teacher and SENCO, implementing their strategies with precision and providing honest, detailed feedback.

  • Adaptable & Energetic: EYFS is fast-paced. You need the energy to get down on the floor, engage in sensory play, and adapt a lesson plan in an instant to suit the child's mood or energy level.

Why Join This Nurturing Academy?

  • Pastoral Excellence: Join a school where the nurture team is legendary for their commitment. You will be fully supported by experts who believe that every child deserves the best start.

  • Modern Workspace: Benefit from a new-build environment designed specifically to be inclusive, with sensory spaces and high-quality resources.

  • The "Parent-Friendly" Shift: The 12:00 PM start is perfect for those juggling their own morning commitments, allowing you to work without missing the school-run.

  • Work inclusively as a driver: Work in a community that celebrates diversity and believes that background or status should never limit a child's potential.

Requirements

  • Proven SEN Experience: Essential experience with Autism (ASD) and Non-Verbal communication.

  • EYFS Expertise: A solid understanding of the development stages for children aged 3-5.

  • Team Player: A humble, professional approach with a willingness to learn from the school's experienced SENCO and teaching staff.

How to Apply

If you have the specialist skills for non-verbal support and the nurturing character to help a child flourish, we want to hear from you.
