SEMH English Teacher - Northampton

Tradewind Recruitment are currently seeking a passionate and resilient English Teacher to work within a specialist SEMH (Social, Emotional and Mental Health) provision based in Northampton. This is a fantastic opportunity for an educator who is committed to supporting young people who may have experienced significant barriers to learning and require a more nurturing and structured environment to succeed.

This role involves teaching secondary-aged pupils in smaller class settings, allowing for a more personalised and supportive approach to learning. Many students within the provision have faced challenges in mainstream education and may present with social, emotional, and behavioural needs. As such, the successful candidate will need to be patient, adaptable, and confident in building positive relationships with pupils who may need additional guidance and encouragement.

As the SEMH English Teacher, you will deliver engaging and accessible English lessons tailored to individual learning needs, helping students develop both their academic abilities and confidence in the classroom. You will work closely with support staff and pastoral teams to ensure students feel safe, supported and motivated to achieve.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Planning and delivering engaging English lessons to secondary-aged pupils

  • Adapting learning materials to meet a range of abilities and SEMH needs

  • Managing behaviour positively using consistent routines and supportive strategies

  • Building strong relationships with pupils to support engagement and progress

  • Working collaboratively with Teaching Assistants, pastoral staff and the wider school team

  • Monitoring student progress and providing feedback to support development

The ideal candidate will:

  • Hold Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) or equivalent teaching qualification

  • Have experience working with SEMH, behavioural needs, or alternative provisions (desirable but not essential)

  • Be confident teaching English at secondary level

  • Demonstrate strong classroom management and relationship-building skills

  • Be passionate about helping students re-engage with education
