A welcoming secondary special school in Hackney is looking to appoint a Food Technology Technician / Teaching Assistant to join their supportive team. This is a rewarding opportunity to work with students with Moderate Learning Difficulties (MLD) while supporting engaging and practical food technology lessons.

The school is particularly keen to hear from candidates who already have school-based experience, whether as a Teaching Assistant, classroom support worker, or technician, and who are confident supporting students in a structured learning environment.

This role would suit someone who enjoys working with young people, has a strong interest in food preparation and practical learning, and is confident supporting teaching staff during lessons.

🌟 The Role

Preparing ingredients, equipment and lesson resources for food technology classes

Supporting teaching and learning during practical cooking sessions

Helping students participate safely and confidently in food preparation activities

Maintaining high standards of hygiene, cleanliness and health & safety in the food technology area

Organising equipment and maintaining stock within the department

Working closely with teachers and support staff to ensure students are fully supported during lessons

✨ About You

Previous school-based experience is highly desirable (e.g. Teaching Assistant, classroom support or technician role)

A patient, supportive and positive approach when working with young people

Interest in food technology, cooking or practical classroom learning

Strong organisational skills and attention to detail

Excellent teamwork and communication skills

Confidence supporting students with additional learning needs

Knowledge of food hygiene and safety procedures would be beneficial, but training can be provided for the right candidate.
