SEN Teaching Assistant / Special Support Assistant | Blackpool & Fylde
Location: Blackpool & The Fylde Coast (Multiple Postcodes)
Salary: £14.25-£15 per hour
Contract: Temporary (Summer Term: 13th April - 27th July)
Hours: 32.5 Hours Per Week | Mon-Fri, 08:30 - 15:30 (Term Time Only)

The Role: Special Support Assistant (1:1)
Our schools are seeking patient, nurturing individuals to provide dedicated support for pupils with varied Special Educational Needs (SEN) and learning difficulties. These roles vary in intensity based on the child's specific EHCP requirements.
Opportunities include:
Non-Verbal Support: Intensive 1:1 support for children with significant communication barriers, often requiring sensory-led engagement and alternative communication tools.
Cognition & Attention Support: Mild "side-by-side" assistance for pupils who need help with focus, task-switching, and breaking down learning into manageable steps.
Developmental Bridging: Supporting Key Stage 1/2 pupils who may be cognitively recognised at an EYFS or younger levels due to medical or developmental conditions.
Key Responsibilities
Tailored Interaction: Acting as a dedicated learning partner, whether providing total communication support or gentle prompts for attention.
Curriculum Adaptation: Translating classroom topics into accessible play-based activities or visual schedules suitable for the child's cognitive stage.
Phonics & Literacy: Utilising Read Write Inc. or sensory-based phonics to encourage literacy and communication.
EHCP Implementation: Working with the SENDCO to meet specific targets ranging from social-emotional milestones to academic progress.
Requirements & Preferred Skills
Experience: Proven experience as an SEN TA, Early Years Practitioner, or Special Support Assistant.
Preferred Knowledge: Experience with the Read Write Inc. Phonics programme and EYFS Frameworks is highly valued.
Communication: Proficiency in Makaton, PECS, or Visual Timetables is a significant advantage for non-verbal roles.
