1:1 SEN Teaching Assistant - Year 1 (Down Syndrome Specialist)

Location: Poulton-le-Fylde / FY6 Area (Blackpool, Bispham, Thornton, Fleetwood)

Hours: Monday - Friday, 08:30 - 13:00 (Part-Time, Term Time Only)

Contract: Temporary (13th April - 24th July)

Start Date: ASAP (Pending Safeguarding/DBS Checks)

Are you an experienced Special Educational Needs (SEN) Teaching Assistant looking for a rewarding part-time role in a local Church of England Primary School?

We are seeking a dedicated 1:1 TA to support a delightful Year 1 boy with Down Syndrome. This role is central to his reintegration into school life, focusing on engagement, social interaction, and communication development.

The Role: 1:1 Support & Development

As a Year 1 SEN TA, your primary focus will be delivering tailored support to a single pupil with a limited vocabulary. You will:

  • Use play-based learning to facilitate academic and social development.

  • Turn everyday games into learning opportunities to boost peer engagement.

  • Implement Phonics strategies, using physical prompts and sounds to aid speech.

  • Work within a nurturing, high-achieving KS1 environment (Class size approx. 30).

Key Requirements

  • Qualifications: A recognised Teaching Assistant Qualification (Level 2 or 3) is essential.

  • SEN Experience: Proven experience supporting children with Down Syndrome or complex needs is a must.

  • Skills: Strong knowledge of Phonics and speech development is highly desirable.

  • Attributes: You must be patient, proactive, and genuinely passionate about early years development.
