Job Description

Year 1 SEN Teaching Assistant (SEMH Specialist)

Location: Blackpool

Start Date: ASAP - July 2026

Hours: Monday to Friday, 08:30 - 15:30

Contract: Temporary, term time.

Are you a resilient, empathetic educator with a passion for supporting children through their most challenging moments? We are looking for a dedicated SEN Teaching Assistant to join our inclusive Year 1 team in Blackpool.

This role is specifically designed to support a small group of children with Social, Emotional, and Mental Health (SEMH) needs. We are seeking an individual who understands that "behaviour is communication" and has the experience to help children navigate the impact of trauma on their learning journey.

The Role

Working within a mainstream Year 1 setting, you will be the anchor for children whose early life experiences or SEMH needs require a specialised approach. You will:

  • Provide Trauma-Informed Support: Use your experience to de-escalate situations and provide a "safe base" for pupils.

  • Facilitate Brave Learning: Encourage curiosity and confidence in children who may find the classroom environment overwhelming.

  • Collaborate: Work closely with the Class Teacher and SENDCo to implement tailored support plans.

  • Foster Inclusion: Ensure every child in your care feels respected, understood, and capable of success.

What We Are Looking For

  • Proven Experience: A background in supporting students with SEMH needs is essential.

  • Trauma-Informed Practice: You must have a deep understanding of how trauma impacts brain development and classroom behaviour.

  • Resilience & Kindness: The ability to maintain high expectations while leading with warmth and discipline.

  • Reliability: Commitment to a full-time schedule until the end of the 2026 academic year.

  • Qualification: L2/3 TA qualification is desirable or previous school SEN/SEMH experience.

About Our School

We pride ourselves on being a fully inclusive community. Our school is a welcoming, safe, and disciplined environment where we treat every family and staff member with kindness and respect. We don't just teach; we nurture. We celebrate "brave learning" and provide the scaffolding necessary for our most vulnerable students to prosper.
