Job Description

About the Role (FY Area)

Are you a resilient and empathetic individual looking to make a real difference in a Blackpool secondary school? We are seeking a Pastoral Cover & Student Support Officer to join our dedicated team this May. This is a dual-impact role where you will bridge the gap between classroom supervision and student well-being.

You will provide essential cover for absent teachers while maintaining a high standard of pastoral care, ensuring that learning never stops and that vulnerable students receive the emotional and behavioural support they need to succeed.

Key Responsibilities

  • Classroom Cover: Lead pre-planned lessons across various subjects, ensuring a calm and productive environment in line with the academy's behaviour policy.

  • Pastoral Intervention: Act as a key point of contact for students requiring behavioural or emotional support during the school day.

  • Student Well-being: Work closely with the Head of Year and Safeguarding Lead to monitor attendance, punctuality, and student welfare.

  • 1:1 Support: Facilitate small-group interventions or "check-ins" to help students overcome barriers to learning.

What We Are Looking For

  • Experience: Previous experience working with young people (secondary age) in an educational, youth work, or coaching capacity.

  • Resilience: The ability to handle challenging behaviour with a calm, firm, and fair approach.

  • Adaptability: A professional who can pivot from classroom management to a 1:1 pastoral crisis at a moment's notice.

  • Communication: Excellent interpersonal skills to build rapport with students, parents, and the wider school community.

Why Join Our Blackpool Academy?

  • Professional Development: Gain invaluable experience in both classroom leadership and specialist pastoral care for those eyeing a future in teaching or social work.

  • Supportive Culture: Join a robust team where student welfare is at the heart of everything we do.

  • Community Impact: Directly influence the lives of young people in Blackpool during a critical stage of their education.

How to Apply

We are looking to interview and appoint for a May 2026 start. Please submit your CV and a brief covering letter detailing your experience in pastoral support and classroom cover.
