Job Title: SEMH Support Teaching Assistant

Contract: Full-Time, Term Time Only

Are you experienced in mental health support and passionate about helping young people thrive in education?
We are seeking a dedicated and compassionate SEMH Support Teaching Assistant to join our team, supporting pupils with social, emotional and mental health (SEMH) needs within a specialist school environment.
This rewarding role is ideal for someone with previous mental health experience who can help pupils overcome barriers to learning, develop emotional resilience and reach their full potential.
Main Responsibilities:
- Provide 1:1 and small group support for pupils with SEMH needs
- Support students with emotional regulation, wellbeing strategies and positive behaviour approaches
- Build positive and trusting relationships to help pupils feel safe, supported and ready to learn
- Work alongside teaching staff and pastoral teams to implement individual support strategies
- Support pupils through challenging situations using calm, consistent and trauma-informed approaches
- Promote confidence, independence and positive social development
- Help create a nurturing and inclusive learning environment
- Monitor student progress and contribute to wellbeing and behaviour support plans
The Ideal Candidate Will Have:
- Previous experience working in mental health support is essential
- Experience supporting children or young people with SEMH or additional needs is highly desirable
- Understanding of trauma-informed practice and emotional wellbeing support strategies
- Strong communication and relationship-building skills
- A patient, resilient and empathetic approach
- The ability to remain calm under pressure and support students positively through challenges
- Relevant qualifications in mental health, psychology, education or support work are advantageous
