Job Description
Location: Burnley, Lancashire
Salary: Unqualified Teacher Scale (Up to £31,850+ depending on experience)
Contract Type: Full-Time, Permanent Pathway
Start Date: September 2026 (Early starts available for the right candidate)
Are you an experienced Childcare Practitioner, Nursery Nurse, or Youth Worker looking to transition into a teaching career? Do you have the resilience and passion to support Burnley's most vulnerable learners?
We are offering a unique Train to Teach opportunity within a leading Alternative Provision (AP). This role is specifically designed for individuals with a strong background in childcare who are ready to take the lead in a classroom environment while working toward formal teaching status.
The Pathway: From Childcare to Classroom Leader
In an Alternative Provision, we don't just focus on academics; we focus on the whole child. Your experience in early years or childcare is the perfect foundation for this role, as you already understand developmental milestones, safeguarding, and the importance of nurturing relationships.
September 2026 Start: Begin your journey at the start of the academic year (with potential paid induction weeks in Summer 2026).
On-the-Job Training: Gain hands-on experience leading small groups of students (KS3/KS4) who have struggled in mainstream education.
Fully Supported: You will be paired with a Senior Mentor and provided with a clear roadmap to achieving QTS (Qualified Teacher Status) or QTLS.
Specialist Focus: Develop expertise in SEMH (Social, Emotional, and Mental Health) and trauma-informed teaching practices.
What You'll Need
Childcare Experience: A minimum of 2 years experience in a childcare, nursery, or youth setting is essential.
Academic Foundation: A Degree (in any subject) is preferred for the teaching pathway, but we will consider highly experienced Level 3 practitioners.
Resilience: You must be comfortable working in a fast-paced environment with students who exhibit challenging behaviours.
Burnley Connection: A desire to work within the local community and improve outcomes for Burnley's young people.
Benefits of Training With Us
Earn While You Learn: Avoid the debt of a traditional PGCE; receive a full-time salary while you train.
Small Class Sizes: Work with groups of 5-8 students rather than a standard class of 30.
Temp-to-Perm Security: This is a long-term career move with a permanent contract following your initial training period.
Pension & Perks: Access to the Teachers' Pension Scheme and local Burnley employee benefits.
