Finance Manager (Maternity Cover - Fixed Term, 6 Months)
Location: Tower Hamlets, East London
Contract: Fixed-Term (6 Months Maternity Cover)
Hours: Full Time, All Year Round
Salary: £185 - £220 daily
We are seeking an experienced, organised and proactive Finance Manager to join our thriving secondary school in Tower Hamlets on a six-month maternity cover contract.
This is an exciting opportunity for a finance professional who is committed to supporting educational excellence through effective financial management. Working closely with the Headteacher, School Business Manager and senior leadership team, you will play a key role in ensuring the school's financial resources are managed efficiently, accurately and in compliance with relevant regulations.
Key Responsibilities
- Manage the school's day-to-day financial operations and accounting processes.
- Monitor budgets, expenditure and income, providing regular reports and analysis.
- Support budget planning, forecasting and financial year-end procedures.
- Oversee purchase orders, invoices, payroll reconciliation and supplier payments.
- Ensure compliance with financial regulations, audit requirements and school policies.
- Maintain accurate financial records using the school's finance systems.
- Liaise effectively with staff, governors, external auditors and local authority representatives.
- Support procurement processes and value-for-money initiatives.
About You
The successful candidate will:
- Have substantial experience in finance management, ideally within the education or public sector.
- Possess strong financial and analytical skills with excellent attention to detail.
- Be confident using financial management systems and Microsoft Excel.
- Demonstrate the ability to work independently and manage competing priorities.
- Have excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Hold a relevant finance qualification (AAT, ACCA, CIMA, CIPFA or equivalent) or have significant relevant experience.
