Job Description
About the Role
Are you a confident, resilient, and engaging professional looking to make a massive impact on the lives of young people in Blackpool?
We are actively recruiting for a Secondary Behaviour Mentor to join the inclusion and pastoral team at an progressive secondary school in Blackpool for the upcoming 2026/2027 academic year.
In this role, you won't be doing standard classroom assistant work. Instead, you will be on the front lines of student engagement-working 1:1 and with small groups of secondary pupils (Key Stage 3 and 4) who are at risk of exclusion, struggling with emotional regulation, or facing barriers related to Social, Emotional, and Mental Health (SEMH) needs. Your goal is to help them de-escalate, reset, and safely reintegrate back into their academic schedules.
Key Responsibilities
Provide targeted 1:1 behavioural mentoring to students displaying challenging behaviour, disengagement, or low self-esteem.
Run small-group workshops focused on emotional regulation, conflict resolution, and positive social interactions.
De-escalate challenging situations calmly and effectively using positive behaviour management and trauma-informed techniques.
Work closely with the school's Pastoral Leaders, Head of Years, and SENCO to implement Individual Education Programs (IEPs) and behavioural strategies.
Act as a bridge between the classroom and the school's internal inclusion centre, helping students find a calm space to catch up on work.
Be a visible, approachable, and commanding positive role model throughout the school day, setting firm but respectful boundaries.
What We Are Looking For
Experience: A proven track record of managing challenging behaviour in adolescents. Backgrounds in youth work, sports coaching, Pupil Referral Units (PRUs), children's residential care, or military/public service transition are highly valued.
Mindset: Exceptional resilience, thick skin, and high emotional intelligence. You must be someone who does not take challenging behaviour personally.
Skills: Strong communication skills and the ability to instantly build trust and rapport with disengaged teenagers.
Qualifications: Team Teach, MAPA, or any formal de-escalation/restorative justice training is a massive advantage.
Compliance: An enhanced DBS check registered to the online Update Service (or a willingness to process a new one immediately).
What We Offer
Fair, Transparent Pay: We don't use flat agency rates. You are paid directly to the NJC scale from Day 1, guaranteeing your skill set is fairly compensated.
True Long-Term Stability: A secure, guaranteed full-time contract running for the entire 2026/2027 academic year.
Work-Life Balance: Working standard secondary school hours (Mon-Fri, approx. 8:30 AM - 3:30 PM), term-time only. No weekends, no evenings, and all school holidays free.
Localised Support: Ongoing professional development and dedicated support from a local consultant who specialises exclusively in the Blackpool and Fylde Coast school markets.
