Teacher of History - Long-Term Opportunity

Contract: Long-Term, Full-Time
Salary: Competitive, dependent on experience

We are seeking an enthusiastic and dedicated Teacher of History to join a large, well-established secondary academy in Barnsley from September 2026. This is an exciting long-term opportunity for a passionate educator who is committed to delivering engaging and inspiring History lessons to students across Key Stages 3 and 4, with the potential to teach Key Stage 5 for suitable candidates.

The successful candidate will become part of a supportive and ambitious Humanities department that is committed to achieving excellent outcomes and fostering a love of learning.

Key Responsibilities

  • Plan, prepare and deliver engaging History lessons that inspire and challenge students.
  • Teach History across Key Stages 3 and 4, with Key Stage 5 teaching available depending on experience.
  • Assess, monitor and report on student progress in line with school policies.
  • Differentiate learning to meet the needs of all learners, including those with SEND and higher-attaining students.
  • Create a positive and inclusive classroom environment that promotes high standards of behaviour and achievement.
  • Contribute to the wider life of the Humanities department and the academy.
  • Work collaboratively with colleagues to develop high-quality teaching resources and share best practice.
  • Maintain accurate records and communicate effectively with parents, carers and colleagues.
  • Uphold safeguarding responsibilities and promote the welfare of all students.

Requirements

  • Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) or an equivalent recognised teaching qualification.
  • A degree in History or a closely related subject.
  • Experience teaching History within a UK secondary school.
  • Strong subject knowledge and a passion for History.
  • Excellent classroom management skills.
  • The ability to motivate and inspire students of all abilities.
  • A commitment to raising attainment and delivering high-quality teaching.
  • Excellent communication and organisational skills.
  • An enhanced DBS on the Update Service or willingness to obtain one.
