Teacher of English (Secondary School) - Fixed Term (Autumn Term)

We are seeking an enthusiastic, dedicated, and inspiring Teacher of English to join our successful secondary school in Barnsley for the Autumn Term, starting in September 2026. This is an excellent opportunity for a passionate teacher who is committed to delivering high-quality English lessons and helping students achieve their full potential.

The successful candidate will teach English across Key Stages 3 and 4, creating engaging and inclusive lessons that promote a love of reading, writing, and literature. Applications are welcomed from experienced teachers as well as Early Career Teachers (ECTs).

Key Responsibilities

  • Plan, prepare, and deliver engaging English lessons that meet the needs of all learners.
  • Teach English Language and English Literature across Key Stages 3 and 4.
  • Assess, monitor, and record student progress, providing constructive feedback to support achievement.
  • Differentiate learning to ensure all students, including those with additional needs, can access the curriculum.
  • Maintain high standards of classroom behaviour and promote a positive learning environment.
  • Contribute to the wider life of the English department and the school where appropriate.
  • Attend departmental meetings, parents' evenings, and other school events as required.
  • Work collaboratively with colleagues to share best practice and support student outcomes.
  • Safeguard and promote the welfare of all students in accordance with school policies.

Requirements

The successful candidate will:

  • Hold Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) or an equivalent recognised teaching qualification.
  • Have experience teaching English at secondary school level.
  • Possess strong subject knowledge in English Language and Literature.
  • Demonstrate excellent classroom management skills.
  • Have the ability to motivate, engage, and inspire young people.
  • Be committed to raising achievement and maintaining high expectations for all students.
  • Demonstrate excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Be organised, reliable, and able to work effectively as part of a team.
  • Have a sound understanding of safeguarding responsibilities within education.
