Job Description

Are you passionate about making a positive impact on the lives of young people? Do you have the resilience, patience and interpersonal skills to support students in overcoming barriers to learning?

We are working with a welcoming and inclusive mainstream secondary school in South East Birmingham that is seeking a dedicated Behaviour Mentor to join their pastoral team from September on a full-time, long-term basis.

This is a rewarding opportunity to support students who require additional emotional and behavioural guidance, helping them to remain engaged in education and achieve their potential.

The Role

As a Behaviour Mentor, you will work closely with students who have social, emotional and behavioural needs, providing tailored support to help them succeed both inside and outside the classroom.

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Supporting students with social, emotional and behavioural challenges, including those from vulnerable or disadvantaged backgrounds.
  • Building positive, trusting relationships with students to encourage engagement and personal development.
  • Providing support to students outside of lessons when they are experiencing difficulties or require time away from the classroom.
  • Using a restorative approach to resolve conflict, rebuild relationships and re-engage students with their learning.
  • Identifying patterns of behaviour and proactively intervening to prevent issues from escalating.
  • Working collaboratively with teaching staff, pastoral leaders, SEND teams and parents/carers to implement effective support strategies.
  • Promoting positive behaviour, resilience and emotional wellbeing across the school.

The Ideal Candidate

We are looking for someone who:

  • Has experience working with young people in a school, youth work, mentoring, care or similar setting.
  • Is calm, patient and resilient, with excellent communication and relationship-building skills.
  • Has a genuine passion for supporting students with social, emotional and behavioural needs.
  • Can confidently manage challenging situations using a positive and restorative approach.
  • Is proactive, observant and able to recognise when early intervention is needed.
  • Can work effectively as part of a supportive pastoral team.

Apply today to be considered for this exciting Behaviour Mentor opportunity starting in September.
