Job Description
Burnley, Lancashire (BB10 / BB11)
Education / Sports Coaching / Outdoor Instructor / Trainee Teacher
Are you an outdoor instructor or sports coach looking to transition into a life-changing teaching career?
If you have the resilience, active energy, and strong presence needed to lead young people, you do not need a completed PGCE or QTS right now. We are looking for an Unqualified Outdoor Education Teacher / Sports Coach in Burnley who wants to get paid a full salary while training on the job to become a qualified educator.
Trade the rigid desk classroom for the outdoors. We use sports, bushcraft, fitness, and outdoor adventure activities as a vehicle to re-engage young people who struggle within traditional mainstream education settings.
The Role & Teacher Training Route
Earn While You Learn: Start immediately on a competitive salary up to £31,850 while gaining direct, hands-on classroom and outdoor instructional experience.
Structured Progression: Receive full professional development, mentoring, and support pathways to transition into a fully qualified school teacher or specialised outdoor education lead.
Active Curriculum Delivery: Plan and run engaging sports sessions, team-building activities, and outdoor learning trips around East Lancashire.
Relational Mentoring: Act as a strong role model for students, establishing clear behavioural boundaries rooted in mutual respect rather than strict bureaucracy.
Who Fits This Role Perfectly?
We value your practical experience and personality over a piece of paper. This opportunity is highly suited to individuals with a background in:
Sports Coaching & PE: Experienced sports coaches, holiday camp coordinators, or fitness instructors who know how to motivate groups of youth.
Outdoor Instructors: Individuals with an aptitude for or qualifications in hiking, climbing, Forest School, bushcraft, or multi-activity leadership.
Ex-Military / Service Personnel: Disciplined professionals looking to bring structure, leadership, and resilience to a rewarding community setting.
Requirements
Experience leading, coaching, or working with youth or young adults (sports, youth clubs, or community schemes).
Full UK Driving License (Essential): Must be willing to drive the school minibus to take students to outdoor locations around Burnley and Lancashire.
Strong behavioural boundary setting, a "thick skin", and an empathetic, trauma-informed approach to supporting vulnerable pupils.
Willingness to undergo an Enhanced DBS check.
What's on Offer?
Salary: Up to £31,850 per annum.
Comprehensive internal training (including positive behaviour management and safeguarding modules).
Clear, fully funded steps toward professional educational qualifications.
