Job Description

1:1 SEN Tutor - Individualised Learning & Support

Tradewind Recruitment - Sheffield

Location: Sheffield & surrounding areas
Pay: £25-£35 per hour, depending on experience
Contract: Full-time | Term Time Only

Tradewind Recruitment are looking for a dedicated 1:1 SEN Tutor to provide personalised educational support to children and young people who require additional help to access learning.

This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced teacher, tutor, Teaching Assistant or education professional who enjoys working on an individual basis and can adapt their approach around the needs of each pupil.

The pupils may have SEN, SEMH needs, autism, communication difficulties, behavioural challenges or a history of disengagement from education. The successful candidate will be able to build positive relationships quickly and create a learning environment where pupils feel safe, supported and motivated.

About the Role

You will provide tailored 1:1 tuition, helping pupils to:

  • Re-engage with education and develop a positive attitude towards learning
  • Work towards individual academic targets
  • Develop confidence, independence and resilience
  • Improve their literacy and numeracy skills
  • Manage barriers that may prevent them from accessing education
  • Develop positive relationships with adults and their wider support network
  • Prepare for a successful return to school or their next stage of education

Sessions will be adapted around the individual pupil, meaning you will need to be creative, flexible and patient in your approach.

The Ideal Candidate

We are looking for someone who has:

  • Previous experience working with children or young people
  • Experience supporting pupils with SEN and/or SEMH needs
  • Strong knowledge of the primary or secondary curriculum
  • Experience delivering 1:1 tuition or personalised support
  • Excellent communication and relationship-building skills
  • A calm, patient and nurturing approach
  • Confidence managing challenging behaviour and barriers to learning
  • The ability to adapt lessons to suit individual needs
  • Have access to their own vehicle

Previous experience within SEN schools, Alternative Provision, PRUs, tutoring or specialist education settings would be highly desirable.

Why Work as a 1:1 SEN Tutor?

This role offers the opportunity to work closely with individual pupils and make a genuine difference to their educational journey.

Rather than working with a large classroom, you will be able to focus on the individual needs, interests and strengths of each pupil, helping them make progress both academically and personally.

What We Offer

  • £25-£35 per hour, depending on experience
  • Full-time, term-time opportunities
  • 1:1 working with pupils
  • The opportunity to develop your SEN and Alternative Provision experience
  • Ongoing support from your dedicated SEN Consultant
  • A rewarding role where you can make a direct impact

How to Apply

If you are an experienced teacher, tutor or education professional with a passion for supporting children with additional needs, we would love to hear from you.
