Contract: Full-time, with potential for longer-term
Tradewind Recruitment are currently seeking a dedicated and enthusiastic Secondary Teaching Assistant to join a welcoming secondary academy in Sheffield from mid-September 2026.
This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced Teaching Assistant or someone looking to develop their career within education. You will work closely with teaching staff to support students across the academy, working with both mainstream and SEN (Special Educational Needs) students.
The Role
As a Secondary Teaching Assistant, you will provide support both inside and outside of the classroom, helping students to overcome barriers to learning and reach their full potential.
You will:
- Support students across Key Stages 3 and 4 with their learning and development.
- Work with both mainstream and SEN students, providing appropriate individual and small-group support.
- Assist teachers with classroom activities and lesson preparation.
- Provide one-to-one and small-group interventions where required.
- Help students develop their confidence, independence and engagement with learning.
- Support students with additional needs, adapting your approach to suit individual learning styles.
- Promote positive behaviour and help maintain a calm, safe and inclusive learning environment.
- Build positive and professional relationships with students and staff.
- Provide feedback to teachers regarding students' progress, engagement and behaviour.
- Support the wider pastoral and educational needs of students when required.
Requirements
The successful candidate will ideally have:
- Previous experience working with children or young people, preferably within a secondary school setting.
- Experience supporting students with SEN is desirable but not essential.
- A patient, approachable and supportive nature.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- The ability to build positive relationships with students.
- A flexible and adaptable approach to supporting different learners.
- The ability to work effectively as part of a team.
- A commitment to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people.
- A positive attitude and willingness to get involved in school life.
