We are working with a number of welcoming secondary schools across Northampton who are looking for enthusiastic and committed English Graduate Teachers to join their teams ASAP or from October half term 2026.

This role is particularly suited to English graduates who are considering a career in teaching and want to develop their classroom experience before progressing onto a PGCE, SCITT, School Direct, or another teacher training route.

The Role

As an English Graduate Teacher, you will:

  • Deliver engaging English lessons across Key Stages 3 and 4, following established schemes of work and lesson resources
  • Support students in developing their reading, writing, comprehension, analysis, and communication skills
  • Create a positive classroom environment where students feel encouraged to participate and succeed
  • Adapt your teaching approach to support students with different abilities and learning needs
  • Provide additional support to students who require help with literacy and written work
  • Establish positive relationships with students and promote high expectations for behaviour and achievement
  • Monitor student progress and provide feedback to relevant teaching staff
  • Work alongside experienced members of the English department and learn from established teaching practice
  • Contribute to wider literacy, enrichment, and extracurricular activities where appropriate

Who We're Looking For

We're looking for an English graduate who:

  • Has a 2:2 degree or above in English, English Literature, Creative Writing, Journalism, or a related subject
  • Has excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Has a genuine passion for English and a desire to share this with young people
  • Is confident, enthusiastic, and comfortable working with secondary-aged students
  • Can communicate effectively and establish positive relationships with pupils
  • Is keen to develop their classroom practice and learn from experienced teachers
  • Has strong organisational skills and a professional approach
  • Is considering progressing into teaching through a PGCE, SCITT, School Direct, or similar route
  • Previous experience working with young people is desirable but not essential
