Tradewind Recruitment are currently seeking a resilient and passionate SEMH Teaching Assistant to join a supportive secondary PRU in Tameside.

The setting supports young people who require additional support with SEMH, behaviour and engagement, helping them overcome barriers to education and achieve positive outcomes.

The Role

You will:

• Support secondary-aged pupils on a one-to-one and small-group basis.
• Build positive, trusting relationships with young people.
• Support emotional regulation, behaviour and engagement.
• Assist teachers with classroom learning and activities.
• Promote positive behaviour and maintain clear boundaries.
• Use appropriate de-escalation and behaviour-management strategies.
• Encourage confidence, resilience and independence.
• Work closely with teachers and pastoral staff to support pupil progress.

The Ideal Candidate

We are looking for someone who is:

• Experienced in, or passionate about, supporting young people with SEMH needs.
• Calm, patient and resilient.
• Confident managing challenging behaviour.
• Able to build strong relationships with hard-to-reach pupils.
• Consistent and confident in maintaining boundaries.
• A strong team player with excellent communication skills.

Experience in a PRU, alternative provision, SEMH setting, youth work, behaviour support or secondary school is desirable.
