Mental Health Teaching Assistant - SEMH School
Location: Corby, Northamptonshire
Salary: £92.56 - £100 per day, depending on experience
Contract: Full-Time, Term Time Only

Tradewind Recruitment are currently looking for a Mental Health Teaching Assistant to join a specialist SEMH school in Corby, supporting pupils with a range of social, emotional and mental health needs.

This is an excellent opportunity for a Psychology graduate, aspiring educational psychologist, mental health professional or experienced SEMH practitioner looking to develop their career within a specialist educational setting.

The Role

As a Mental Health Teaching Assistant, you will provide tailored support to pupils who may experience complex emotional, behavioural and mental health needs.

You will:

  • Provide 1:1 and small-group support to pupils with SEMH needs.

  • Build trusting and positive relationships with students.

  • Support pupils with emotional regulation and coping strategies.

  • Help students overcome barriers to learning and engage positively with education.

  • Support behaviour management using positive and trauma-informed approaches.

  • Work alongside teachers, pastoral staff and the wider SEN team.

  • Encourage pupils' confidence, resilience and independence.

  • Help create a calm, safe and supportive learning environment.

The Ideal Candidate

The successful candidate will ideally have:

  • A degree or qualification in Psychology, Counselling, Mental Health, Criminology, Youth Work or a related subject.

  • Experience supporting children or young people with SEMH or behavioural needs.

  • A genuine interest in understanding behaviour and supporting emotional wellbeing.

  • Excellent communication and relationship-building skills.

  • Patience, resilience and the ability to remain calm in challenging situations.

  • A nurturing and empathetic approach.

  • The ability to establish boundaries while developing positive relationships with pupils.

  • An enhanced DBS on the Update Service, or willingness to obtain one.

Previous experience within an SEMH, SEN, education, mental health or care setting would be highly desirable.
