Tradewind Recruitment in Whitstable is recruiting Sports Teaching Assistants to work within a variety of primary, secondary and specialist SEN schools across Canterbury. Schools are looking for motivated individuals who can inspire pupils both inside the classroom and through PE, games, intervention sessions and outdoor activities.

Whether you've worked as a sports coach, fitness instructor, activity leader or have recently completed a sports-related qualification, this is an excellent opportunity to begin or develop a career within education.

What You'll Be Doing

Working alongside teachers and pastoral staff, you'll support pupils throughout the school day by:

  • Assisting children with their learning across a variety of classroom subjects.
  • Supporting PE lessons, school sports and active learning sessions.
  • Using sport to encourage confidence, participation and positive behaviour.
  • Leading or assisting with small group activities and interventions.
  • Promoting teamwork, communication and resilience through physical activity.
  • Providing additional support for pupils with SEND, SEMH or other learning needs.
  • Helping to create an engaging, safe and inclusive learning environment where every child can succeed.

Who We're Looking For

This role would suit candidates from backgrounds such as:

  • Sports coaching.
  • Sports Science, Physical Education or Coaching graduates.
  • Personal training and the fitness industry.
  • Football, rugby, cricket, athletics, swimming, dance or gymnastics coaching.
  • Outdoor education or activity centres.
  • Holiday clubs and youth organisations.
  • Community sports programmes or mentoring.

Essential Qualities

Successful candidates will demonstrate:

  • A genuine enthusiasm for supporting children and young people.
  • Strong communication and relationship-building skills.
  • A proactive, energetic and reliable approach.
  • Patience, resilience and the ability to remain calm under pressure.
  • Confidence working collaboratively with teaching staff.
  • Full-time availability during the school week.
