Tradewind Recruitment are currently working with a Secondary School in Bolton who are looking to appoint a committed and experienced Deputy Designated Safeguarding Lead (Deputy DSL) to join their team as soon as possible.

This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced school-based professional who has a strong understanding of safeguarding procedures and expectations within an educational setting. The successful candidate will play an important role in supporting the school's safeguarding provision, whilst also contributing to the wider pastoral and behavioural culture of the school.

About the Role

As Deputy DSL, you will work closely with the school's Designated Safeguarding Lead and wider pastoral team to help ensure that safeguarding remains a key priority across the school.

The role will involve supporting with safeguarding concerns, following appropriate school procedures, maintaining accurate records and ensuring that concerns are escalated appropriately. You will need to have a confident understanding of the safeguarding responsibilities and expectations that apply within schools and be comfortable dealing with sensitive situations professionally and appropriately.

Alongside the safeguarding responsibilities, there will also be an element of corridor and wider behaviour management. You will be visible around the school, helping to maintain high standards of behaviour, challenging inappropriate conduct and supporting pupils to meet the school's expectations.

Experience of managing behaviour in busy secondary school environments would therefore be a significant advantage.

Key Responsibilities

• Support the Designated Safeguarding Lead with the day-to-day safeguarding provision across the school.
• Respond appropriately to safeguarding concerns and follow the school's established procedures.
• Recognise signs that a child or young person may be at risk and understand the appropriate steps to take.
• Maintain professional confidentiality when dealing with sensitive information.
• Work effectively with the pastoral, behaviour and senior leadership teams.
• Help promote a strong safeguarding culture throughout the school.
• Support with communication and appropriate escalation of safeguarding concerns.
• Provide a visible and consistent presence around the school.
• Support with corridor behaviour management, challenging poor behaviour and reinforcing the school's expectations.
• Build positive professional relationships with pupils whilst maintaining clear boundaries.
• Contribute to a safe, calm and positive learning environment for all pupils.

Essential Experience

Applicants must have previous professional experience working within a school or education setting.

This is an important requirement for the position. We are only considering applicants who have worked in schools or education and who can demonstrate relevant experience of working with children and young people.

The successful candidate will ideally have:

• Previous experience working in a secondary school or similar educational environment.
• A sound understanding of safeguarding expectations and procedures within schools.
• Experience of dealing appropriately with safeguarding concerns.
• The confidence to communicate with pupils, staff and senior leaders professionally.
• Experience supporting behaviour management within a school environment.
• The ability to remain calm and professional when dealing with challenging situations.
• Strong judgement and an understanding of professional boundaries.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
• A proactive approach and the ability to work as part of a wider pastoral team.

Experience in a Deputy DSL, safeguarding, pastoral, behaviour, inclusion, welfare or similar school-based role would be highly advantageous.

Someone who is particularly strong when it comes to corridor behaviour management and maintaining high standards around the school would be a real bonus.
