Job Description

SEN Science Teacher - Milton Keynes

Location: Milton Keynes
Position: SEN Science Teacher
Type: Full-time
Potential: Temp-to-perm opportunity
Agency: Tradewind Recruitment

Tradewind Recruitment are currently supporting a SEN secondary school in Milton Keynes who are looking to appoint a committed and engaging Science Teacher to join their team on a full-time basis.

The school supports secondary-aged students with a range of Special Educational Needs and SEMH needs, and they are looking for a teacher who can create a positive, structured and engaging learning environment where students feel supported to make progress.

This role would suit an experienced Science Teacher who has worked within a SEN or SEMH setting, as well as a mainstream teacher who is keen to develop their experience working with students with additional needs. The ability to build positive relationships and adapt your teaching approach to suit individual learners will be particularly important.

The Role

As a Science Teacher, you will be responsible for planning and delivering engaging Science lessons to secondary-aged students, adapting the curriculum and resources to meet a range of learning needs. You will work closely with support staff and other members of the school team to ensure students receive the appropriate support both academically and pastorally.

You will also be expected to:

  • Plan and deliver engaging Science lessons that are accessible to students with a range of SEN and SEMH needs.
  • Adapt teaching, resources and activities to meet different learning abilities and individual needs.
  • Build positive, trusting relationships with students and encourage them to engage with their learning.
  • Establish clear and consistent classroom expectations and support positive behaviour.
  • Monitor student progress and contribute to their wider development.
  • Work collaboratively with teaching assistants, pastoral staff and other professionals.
  • Create a calm, inclusive classroom environment where students feel safe and supported.

What We're Looking For

The successful candidate will have Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) and a relevant Science background, alongside a genuine interest in supporting students with additional needs.

Experience working with SEN, SEMH or challenging behaviour would be beneficial, but the school is also open to teachers with mainstream experience who can demonstrate a flexible and inclusive approach.

Most importantly, you will be patient, resilient and enthusiastic, with the ability to engage students who may have previously struggled within a traditional classroom environment.

Why Work with Tradewind Recruitment?

  • Full-time position within a supportive SEN secondary school.
  • Potential opportunity to move from temporary to permanent employment.
  • Competitive rates of pay.
  • Access to free CPD and training through the National College.
  • Dedicated support from your consultant throughout your placement.
  • Opportunities to develop your SEN and SEMH experience.

If you are a passionate Science Teacher looking for an opportunity to make a genuine difference to young people with SEN and SEMH needs, we would love to hear from you.
