The role would suit a caring, patient, and proactive individual who is passionate about supporting pupils with Special Educational Needs (SEN). Previous school experience is beneficial, but candidates with backgrounds in care, youth work, mentoring, sports coaching, or other people-focused roles are also encouraged to apply.

The Role

  • Providing one-to-one and small-group support to students with additional learning needs

  • Supporting pupils with autism, ADHD, SEMH, dyslexia, learning difficulties, and other SEN

  • Working alongside teachers to support pupils during lessons and classroom activities

  • Helping students access learning through differentiated tasks and adapted resources

  • Encouraging confidence, independence, and positive engagement with education

  • Supporting pupils with their social, emotional, and behavioural development

  • Promoting positive behaviour and helping students manage challenges effectively

  • Creating a safe, inclusive, and supportive environment where every student can thrive

  • Working alongside experienced teaching staff and gaining valuable insight into classroom practice

The Ideal Candidate

  • Has a genuine passion for supporting children and young people

  • Is considering a future career in teaching or education

  • Is patient, empathetic, approachable, and understanding

  • Can build positive and trusting relationships with pupils

  • Has a calm and consistent approach to behaviour and challenging situations

  • Communicates effectively with students, teachers, and wider school staff

  • Is reliable, flexible, and able to work effectively as part of a team

  • Has experience in education, SEN, care, youth work, mentoring, or a similar environment - desirable but not essential

  • Graduates and aspiring teachers looking to gain school-based experience are encouraged to apply
