Temporary School Pastoral Officer

Location: Lewisham, South East London
Pay: £110-£130 per day, PAYE
Hours: Monday to Friday, 8:00am-4:00pm
Start Date: ASAP

Role Summary

As a Pastoral Officer, you will work closely with students, teaching staff and pastoral teams to provide support that promotes positive behaviour, attendance, wellbeing and engagement with learning.
You will play an important role in helping students overcome barriers to success while contributing to a safe and positive school culture.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide day-to-day pastoral support to students
  • Support student wellbeing, behaviour and engagement
  • Build positive and professional relationships with pupils
  • Work collaboratively with teaching and pastoral teams
  • Support attendance monitoring and student engagement initiatives
  • Promote positive behaviour and high expectations
  • Contribute to a safe, supportive and inclusive environment
  • Maintain accurate records and communicate relevant information appropriately
  • Help students overcome barriers to learning and participation

Candidate Requirements

  • Previous experience working with young people or within an educational setting is desirable
  • Experience in pastoral support, mentoring, youth work, behaviour support or similar roles is advantageous
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills
  • Calm, professional and supportive approach
  • Ability to build positive relationships while maintaining appropriate boundaries
  • Strong organisational and record-keeping skills
  • Commitment to safeguarding and student wellbeing
  • Ability to work effectively as part of a wider school team
A degree is desirable but not essential. Candidates with relevant transferable experience are encouraged to apply.

Pay and Progression

The role pays £110-£130 per day through PAYE.
The exact rate offered will depend on your experience, qualifications and responsibilities within the role.
Candidates considered for opportunities at the upper end of the pay scale of £130 per day will typically demonstrate significant experience supporting young people, previous pastoral or behaviour support experience, strong safeguarding knowledge, excellent relationship-building skills, experience managing attendance or behaviour interventions, and the ability to work independently with vulnerable or at-risk students.
