Mental Health Teaching Assistant - Corby
Location: Corby, Northamptonshire
Start Date: September 2026 | Full-Time | Temporary to Permanent

We are working in partnership with a welcoming and inclusive all-through school in Corby, which is seeking a dedicated Mental Health Teaching Assistant to join their team from September 2026. This full-time, temporary to permanent opportunity involves supporting pupils across both primary and secondary phases, from EYFS through to Key Stage 4.
This is an excellent opportunity for someone with experience supporting children or young people with SEMH needs to work within a nurturing environment, helping pupils overcome barriers to learning and develop the confidence, resilience, and emotional skills they need to succeed.
About the Role:
Provide one-to-one and small-group support for pupils with SEMH needs, anxiety, emotional regulation difficulties, trauma-related experiences, or behavioural challenges
Support pupils across the school's primary and secondary phases, from EYFS through to Key Stage 4
Build positive, trusting relationships that promote confidence, resilience, and emotional wellbeing
Support pupils both inside and outside the classroom, encouraging engagement with learning and positive social interactions
Work closely with teachers, SENCOs, pastoral staff, safeguarding leads, and other professionals to implement individual support strategies
Assist with targeted interventions focused on emotional literacy, self-esteem, emotional regulation, and positive behaviour
Help maintain a safe, calm, and inclusive learning environment where every pupil feels valued and supported
Monitor pupil progress and communicate concerns appropriately in line with school policies and safeguarding procedures
Encourage pupils to develop positive coping strategies, independence, and confidence
Contribute to the school's wider approach to promoting positive mental health and wellbeing
We're Looking For:
Experience working with children or young people with SEMH needs in education, youth work, care, residential settings, or similar environments
A patient, compassionate, and resilient approach with the ability to remain calm and consistent when supporting pupils
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build strong relationships with pupils and staff
A good understanding of safeguarding and child protection procedures
The ability to adapt your approach when working with pupils across different ages and developmental stages
Relevant qualifications or training in psychology, education, youth work, counselling, mental health, or a related field are desirable but not essential
A genuine passion for supporting children and young people's emotional wellbeing and helping them succeed
