Mental Health Teaching Assistant - Corby

Tradewind Recruitment are currently recruiting for a dedicated and compassionate Mental Health Teaching Assistant to work within a supportive secondary school in Corby.

This rewarding role involves supporting students who may be experiencing social, emotional and mental health (SEMH) challenges, helping them to overcome barriers to learning and achieve success both academically and personally. The position would suit candidates with experience in education, youth work, care, support work, coaching, psychology or mental health services. Tradewind regularly works with schools across Northamptonshire and offers access to ongoing professional development and CPD opportunities.

The Role

  • Provide one-to-one and small-group support to students with SEMH needs.

  • Build positive and trusting relationships with young people.

  • Support students in managing emotions, behaviour and engagement within school.

  • Work closely with teachers, pastoral teams and SEN staff to implement support strategies.

  • Encourage confidence, resilience and positive attitudes towards learning.

  • Help create a safe, nurturing and inclusive learning environment.

  • Monitor student progress and provide feedback to teaching staff.

The Ideal Candidate Will Have

  • Experience working with children or young people in an educational, care, youth work or support setting.

  • A genuine passion for supporting mental health and wellbeing.

  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.

  • Patience, empathy and resilience.

  • The ability to remain calm and professional in challenging situations.

  • An understanding of SEMH needs would be advantageous but is not essential.

  • A willingness to learn and develop within the role.
