SEND Teaching Assistant

Tradewind Recruitment are currently seeking an enthusiastic and compassionate Teaching Assistant to work full time at an excellent school in Hull, starting as soon as possible, and lasting until at least Christmas 2026, with the potential to extend longer, or even become permanent. This role will pay between £95 and £110 per day depending on experience and qualifications.

Key Responsibilities

As a SEND Teaching Assistant your duties will include:

• Provide one-to-one and small-group support to pupils with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND).
• Support pupils with their learning and development in line with individual education plans (IEPs), support plans and EHCP outcomes.
• Adapt and differentiate learning activities to meet individual pupils' needs and abilities.
• Assist pupils with literacy, numeracy and other areas of the curriculum.
• Promote pupils' independence, confidence and self-esteem.
• Support pupils with communication and interaction difficulties, including those with speech, language and communication needs.
• Assist pupils with social, emotional and behavioural needs, using appropriate strategies to promote positive behaviour.
• Encourage positive relationships and inclusion within the classroom and wider school environment.
• Work closely with teachers to plan, deliver and review appropriate learning and support activities.
• Monitor and record pupils' progress, achievements, behaviour and development.
• Provide feedback to teachers and other relevant staff regarding pupils' progress and individual needs.
• Implement strategies recommended by the SENCO, teachers, educational psychologists and other professionals.
• Support pupils with sensory, physical or medical needs where appropriate and within school procedures.
• Assist pupils with personal care and daily routines where required.
• Help pupils develop independence and life skills.
• Use appropriate communication strategies, visual aids, sensory resources and other specialist equipment to support learning.
• Help create a safe, welcoming and inclusive learning environment.
• Support pupils during lessons, break times, lunchtimes, school trips and other activities where required.
• Promote equality, diversity and inclusion, ensuring pupils are supported to participate fully in school life.
• Build positive and trusting relationships with pupils while maintaining appropriate professional boundaries.
• Communicate effectively with parents, carers and other professionals when appropriate and in accordance with school policies.
• Maintain confidentiality and follow safeguarding, health and safety and school policies at all times.
• Attend relevant meetings, training and professional development to improve knowledge and practice in supporting pupils with SEND.
• Contribute to a positive, supportive and inclusive school environment.

Requirements

To be considered for this role, candidates will need:

• An up-to-date DBS.
• Strong subject knowledge and excellent communication skills.
• Effective classroom management skills.
• A genuine passion for education and supporting students to achieve their potential.
• Have experience working within schools in the UK
• Enhanced DBS Disclosure, Overseas Police Clearances (if applicable) and professional reference checks
• CV must cover the full CV History
• Legal right to work in the UK
