Tradewind Recruitment are currently recruiting for a Mental Health Teaching Assistant to work within a supportive educational setting in the Corby area. This is a rewarding opportunity for someone who is patient, resilient and committed to helping students overcome barriers to learning and reach their full potential.

The role involves supporting pupils with Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) needs, helping them build confidence, develop positive coping strategies and engage successfully in education. SEMH-focused support roles commonly involve promoting emotional wellbeing, positive behaviour and pupil engagement.

The Role

As a Mental Health Teaching Assistant, you will:

  • Provide one-to-one and small group support for students with SEMH needs

  • Support pupils with emotional regulation, wellbeing and confidence-building

  • Build positive and trusting relationships with young people

  • Help students engage with learning and school life

  • Support pupils who may display challenging behaviours

  • Work alongside teachers, pastoral teams and SEN professionals

  • Encourage positive behaviour and independence

  • Promote a calm, structured and nurturing learning environment

The Ideal Candidate

We are looking for individuals who:

  • Have a genuine interest in mental health, wellbeing and education

  • Are patient, empathetic and resilient

  • Can build strong relationships with young people

  • Have excellent communication and interpersonal skills

  • Are passionate about supporting vulnerable learners

  • Remain calm and professional in challenging situations

Experience within any of the following would be highly beneficial:

  • Mental health support

  • Youth work

  • Residential childcare

  • Care and support work

  • SEMH or SEND settings

  • Behaviour support

  • Psychology or counselling

  • Sports coaching or mentoring

Previous school experience is beneficial but not essential. We welcome applications from candidates with strong transferable skills and a passion for supporting young people.
