SEN Teacher - High Wycombe, Buckinghamshire

Teaching opportunity within a specialist setting supporting pupils aged 7-19 with complex cognitive, sensory and communication needs, including 6th form life-skills provision.

An established specialist education setting is seeking an experienced SEN Teacher for a provision in High Wycombe, Buckinghamshire, supporting pupils aged 7-19 with complex cognitive, sensory and communication needs.

The provision is organised across four departments, with pupils supported according to their age, development and individual learning requirements. The setting also includes two 6th form classes focused on developing practical skills, independence and preparation for life beyond school.

The structure provides opportunities to work with pupils across different ages and levels of need, while the 6th form provision focuses particularly on developing skills that pupils can use beyond the school environment.

Responsibilities

As part of the teaching team, you will be expected to:

  • Plan and deliver differentiated learning activities
  • Adapt teaching to individual communication and learning needs
  • Support pupils with complex cognitive and sensory needs
  • Establish clear routines and expectations
  • Develop pupils' independence and functional skills
  • Monitor and assess individual progress
  • Work closely with teaching assistants and specialist staff
  • Communicate effectively with families and professionals
  • Contribute to individual education and support plans
  • Maintain accurate records of progress and development
  • Follow safeguarding and care procedures
  • Support pupils in preparing for their next stage of education, training or adulthood

The Ideal Candidate

This position would suit a qualified teacher who has experience working within specialist education or has a strong interest in developing their SEN teaching experience.

You should have:

  • Qualified Teacher Status or an appropriate recognised teaching qualification
  • Experience teaching pupils with additional or complex needs
  • Strong differentiation skills
  • Excellent classroom management
  • The ability to communicate clearly and patiently
  • An understanding of sensory and communication needs
  • A commitment to safeguarding
  • The ability to work effectively as part of a multidisciplinary team
