Contract Type: Full-Time / Long-Term Supply options available

Salary/Pay Rate: Competitive (Dependent on experience)

About the Role

Are you a resilient, compassionate, and inspiring Mentor looking for a rewarding role where you can truly transform young lives?

We are working in partnership with a dynamic Alternative Provision (AP) setting in Burnley that caters to students who have disengaged from mainstream education, struggle with attendance, or require specialised social, emotional, and mental health (SEMH) support.

We are seeking a dedicated Mentor to lead targeted 1:1 and small group mentoring sessions, helping students overcome barriers to learning, regulate their emotions, re-engage with education, and build the confidence they need to succeed.

Key Responsibilities

  • Deliver Targeted Mentoring: Plan and run engaging 1:1 sessions and small group activities focused on pastoral support, emotional regulation, social skills, and personal development.

  • Support SEMH & Behaviour: Implement effective behaviour management and de-escalation strategies, promoting a calm, structured, and safe learning environment.

  • Track & Report Progress: Monitor student engagement, assess emotional and behavioural progress, and document outcomes to support individual growth plans.

  • Collaborate with Staff: Work closely with teachers, SENCOs, pastoral leads, and external agencies to tailor support strategies to individual student needs.

  • Build Resilience: Act as a positive role model, fostering trust and rapport with vulnerable young people to improve their self-esteem, attendance, and independence.

Candidate Requirements

  • Qualifications: Relevant qualifications in Youth Work, Mentoring, Counselling, Sports Coaching, or a relevant Education/Childcare background (e.g., Level 3+).

  • Experience: Proven experience working with young people, ideally as a Mentor, Youth Worker, or Teaching Assistant within an Alternative Provision, SEND, or SEMH setting.

  • Skills: Outstanding communication skills, strong conflict resolution, and excellent behaviour management capabilities.

  • Personal Attributes: High levels of resilience, empathy, patience, active listening, and a flexible "can-do" attitude.

  • Compliance: Must hold a current Enhanced Child Workforce DBS (or be willing to apply for one).

What We Offer

  • Making a Real Difference: The chance to profoundly impact vulnerable students during a critical period in their lives.

  • Professional Growth: Access to ongoing Continuing Professional Development (CPD) and specialised training (e.g., Trauma-Informed Practice, Restorative Approaches).

  • Supportive Environment: Work within a collaborative team dedicated to inclusion and student wellbeing.
