Tradewind Recruitment | Make Every Moment Matter
Are you a positive, caring and empathetic individual who wants to make a genuine difference in the lives of children and young people with complex needs?
Tradewind Recruitment is working with several specialist schools in the Ashford area that are looking for enthusiastic and dedicated Teaching Assistants to support pupils with Profound and Multiple Learning Difficulties (PMLD).
These are incredibly rewarding opportunities for individuals who bring patience, compassion and a proactive approach to their work. Whether you have previous experience in a specialist school, care setting or support role, or you're looking to begin a career supporting children with additional needs, we'd love to hear from you.
You don't need to have all the answers - just the right attitude, a willingness to learn and a genuine desire to help others thrive.
Why join Tradewind Recruitment?
We understand how important the right support staff are in specialist education. Our partner schools are looking for people who can bring warmth, consistency and positivity to pupils' everyday experiences.
Here's what you can expect:
- Rewarding work: Make a meaningful difference to pupils' communication, independence, comfort and wellbeing.
- Opportunities across Ashford: Work with a range of specialist PMLD schools to find a setting that suits you.
- Competitive pay: Receive competitive rates based on your experience and the role.
- Flexible opportunities: Explore day-to-day supply, short-term placements and longer-term positions.
- Dedicated support: Benefit from guidance from a recruitment team that understands the education sector.
- Valuable experience: Develop your skills in specialist education, with opportunities to learn from experienced teachers and support staff.
What will the role involve?
As a PMLD Teaching Assistant, you'll work closely with teachers and other professionals to provide individualised support for pupils with complex learning, communication, physical and care needs.
Your responsibilities may include:
- Providing one-to-one and small-group support tailored to pupils' individual needs.
- Helping pupils engage in sensory activities, communication opportunities and meaningful learning experiences.
- Supporting pupils with their physical development, mobility and positioning in accordance with their individual care plans and appropriate training.
- Assisting with personal care, where required, with dignity, sensitivity and respect.
- Encouraging communication through gestures, visual resources, communication aids and other individualised approaches.
- Creating a safe, calm and nurturing environment where pupils feel comfortable and supported.
- Working collaboratively with teachers, therapists and other members of the school team.
- Celebrating small achievements and recognising that every step forward matters.
What makes a great PMLD Teaching Assistant?
We're looking for people who are positive, empathetic, proactive and passionate about helping others.
You could be a great fit if you:
- Bring a warm, patient and caring approach to your work.
- Show empathy and understand the importance of treating every pupil as an individual.
- Use your initiative to anticipate pupils' needs and respond appropriately.
- Are resilient, adaptable and comfortable working in a team.
- Have excellent communication skills and are willing to learn different ways of communicating with pupils.
- Are committed to safeguarding, dignity and promoting the welfare of children and young people.
Previous experience in PMLD, SEN, healthcare, residential care, nursing, support work or a similar setting would be advantageous. However, transferable experience and the right attitude are also valuable, and training requirements will depend on the school and position.
Why this role is so rewarding
Working in a PMLD school is about much more than supporting lessons. It's about helping pupils feel safe, valued and understood.
Sometimes success means a pupil communicating a preference, engaging with a new sensory activity, building trust with a familiar adult or achieving a little more independence. These moments matter, and your support can help make them possible.
If you're someone who naturally looks out for others, brings positivity into challenging situations and wants a career with real purpose, this could be the opportunity you've been looking for.
