Daily Pay Rate: £100 - £125 per day (dependent on experience, responsibilities and suitability)
About the Role
Tradewind Recruitment is seeking a dedicated, enthusiastic and experienced Behaviour Mentor to support students within a welcoming and inclusive secondary school in Lewisham.
This is an excellent opportunity for a graduate with previous experience supporting young people who may present challenging behaviour, social, emotional and mental health (SEMH) needs, or additional learning needs.
As a Behaviour Mentor, you will play an important role in promoting positive behaviour, building strong relationships with students and helping young people overcome barriers to learning.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide one-to-one and small-group support to secondary school students requiring additional behavioural or emotional support.
- Implement positive behaviour management strategies in line with school policies.
- Support students with SEMH needs, behavioural challenges and additional learning needs.
- Work collaboratively with teachers, SENCOs and pastoral teams to create a positive learning environment.
- Encourage student engagement, emotional regulation, resilience and positive decision-making.
- Help manage challenging situations using appropriate de-escalation techniques.
- Monitor and communicate student progress, behaviour and wellbeing to relevant school staff.
Requirements
To be considered for this position, applicants must:
- Hold a university degree in a relevant subject, such as Psychology, Education, Criminology, Sociology or a related discipline.
- Have previous experience working with children or young people in an educational, mentoring, youth work, pastoral or behavioural support setting.
- Demonstrate strong behaviour management and communication skills.
- Have an understanding of safeguarding, child protection and professional boundaries.
- Be patient, resilient, adaptable and passionate about supporting young people's development.
- Be able to work effectively as part of a wider school team.
Previous experience supporting students with SEMH needs, challenging behaviour or special educational needs is particularly desirable.
Pay and Progression
Daily pay ranges from £100 to £125, depending on relevant qualifications, previous experience, the requirements of the assignment and the responsibilities undertaken.
Candidates with substantial experience in secondary school behaviour support, SEMH provision or specialist mentoring may be considered for opportunities towards the higher end of the advertised pay range.
There may also be opportunities to progress towards higher-paid assignments by:
- Building further experience and demonstrating consistently effective behaviour management.
- Developing specialist skills in SEMH support, de-escalation and pastoral intervention.
- Taking on additional responsibilities, such as leading targeted interventions, mentoring students with more complex needs or supporting wider behaviour initiatives.
- Demonstrating reliability, strong performance and the ability to work independently within the school environment.
Please note: Progression to a higher daily rate is not automatic or guaranteed. Pay will depend on the specific assignment, the school's requirements, the responsibilities involved and agreement with Tradewind Recruitment.
