Job Description
Job Title: Secondary Teaching Assistant / Learning Support Assistant (LSA)
Location: Fulwood, Preston, Lancashire (PR2)
Contract Type: Full-Time, Temporary-to-Permanent (or long-term agency supply)
Support Secondary Learners Where It Matters Most
Are you looking for a fulfilling classroom role in a secondary school environment with straightforward commuter access across Preston and South Ribble?
We are recruiting a Secondary Teaching Assistant to join the dedicated inclusion and learning support team at a high-performing secondary school in Fulwood (PR2). This role is ideal for experienced Level 2/3 Teaching Assistants, university graduates considering a future PGCE, or youth mentors passionate about breaking down academic and social barriers for Key Stage 3 and Key Stage 4 students (ages 11-16).
Working alongside subject teachers and the school SENCO, you will support students with varied learning needs-including Autism Spectrum Condition (ASC), ADHD, moderate learning difficulties (MLD), and speech & language needs-both within general classrooms and through small-group intervention sessions.
Key Responsibilities
In-Class Targeted Support: Circulate secondary classrooms (covering English, Maths, Science, and Humanities) to assist pupils who require differentiated guidance to access the national curriculum.
1:1 and Small-Group Interventions: Deliver pre-structured booster sessions focusing on literacy, numeracy, study skills, and exam prep.
SEMH & Pastoral Care: Foster a calm, focused working environment; assist neurodivergent students with emotional regulation, sensory adaptations, and anxiety management.
EHCP Milestone Tracking: Work closely with the SENCO to monitor pupil progress against specific Education, Health and Care Plan (EHCP) targets.
Promoting Independence: Scaffold tasks to build confidence and resilience, ensuring students learn to think independently rather than relying entirely on adult guidance.
Who We Are Looking For
Qualifications: Level 2 or Level 3 Certificate in Supporting Teaching and Learning in Schools (or equivalent), or a relevant Bachelor's Degree (Psychology, Education, English, Sociology, Sports Science).
Experience: Experience working with secondary-aged pupils (11-16) in a school, tuition centre, youth group, sports coaching, or care setting.
Communication & Presence: Approachable, patient, and articulate, with the confidence to build strong, professional relationships with young people and secondary teaching staff.
Location: Accessible to Fulwood / North Preston via the M6 (J32), A6 Garstang Road, or local Preston bus routes.
Safeguarding: Enhanced Child Workforce DBS registered on the Update Service (or willing to complete an immediate application).
What We Offer
Competitive PAYE Pay: £95 - £115 per day, paid directly into your account every Friday with full holiday accrual and statutory protections.
Consistent School Hours: 8:30 AM - 3:15 PM, Monday to Friday. No evening marking, no weekends, and complete freedom across all 13 weeks of school holidays.
Direct Route to Permanent: Try before you commit via an initial 12-week agency transition leading directly onto a permanent school support contract.
Free On-Site Parking: Easily accessible school campus with free staff parking in Fulwood.
