This role would suit someone who is passionate about supporting children who may find mainstream education challenging and who understands the importance of patience, consistency and positive relationships.

You will be helping pupils develop their emotional, social and learning skills, providing encouragement and guidance to help them feel confident, settled and ready to learn.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide individual and small-group support to primary-aged children with SEMH needs.

  • Help pupils manage their emotions, develop coping strategies and build resilience.

  • Establish positive relationships with children, providing stability and encouragement.

  • Support pupils who may display challenging behaviour, using appropriate de-escalation techniques.

  • Encourage participation in classroom activities and help children remain engaged with learning.

  • Promote positive behaviour, independence and social development.

  • Work alongside teachers and the wider school team to meet individual pupil needs.

  • Contribute to a calm, safe and supportive learning environment.

About You

The successful candidate will:

  • Have previous experience working with children or young people with SEMH needs or behavioural difficulties.

  • Be comfortable supporting primary-aged pupils with a range of additional needs.

  • Have a good understanding of positive behaviour management and emotional regulation.

  • Remain calm, patient and consistent when faced with challenging situations.

  • Be confident building relationships with children who may struggle to trust adults.

  • Have a caring, proactive and resilient approach.

  • Be committed to helping children overcome barriers and achieve their potential.

  • Have a full UK driving licence and access to their own vehicle.

  • Be available to work full-time.

Previous experience in a specialist school, SEMH provision, alternative education, residential childcare or a similar setting would be beneficial.

What Tradewind Can Offer You

  • Competitive daily rates, dependent on experience.

  • A full-time, long-term placement.

  • Potential for a permanent position through a temp-to-perm opportunity.

  • Free CPD and professional development.

  • Access to the National College after your first day of work.

  • A dedicated consultant to support you throughout your placement.

  • The opportunity to develop your experience within specialist education.
