Job Opportunity: Special Educational Needs Teaching Assistant (SEN TA)

We are currently seeking a dedicated and enthusiastic Special Educational Needs Teaching Assistant (SEN TA) to join our team at a primary school, located in the vibrant borough of Greenwich. This position involves working closely with a Year 2 child who is autistic and non-verbal, utilizing visual communication methods to facilitate their learning and development.

Position: Special Educational Needs Teaching Assistant (SEN TA)

Location: Greenwich

Contract Type: Full-time, temporary position until July

Start Date: As soon as possible

Pay: £85 per day, increasing to £90 after 12 weeks

Responsibilities:

  • Provide one-on-one support to a Year 2 child with autism who is non-verbal, using visual communication strategies to promote engagement and understanding.
  • Assist the class teacher in implementing Individual Education Plans (IEPs) and adapting learning activities to meet the child's specific needs.
  • Foster a supportive and inclusive learning environment where the child feels safe, valued, and encouraged to participate.
  • Collaborate effectively with the SENCO, teachers, and other support staff to ensure consistency and continuity of support for the child.
  • Monitor the child's progress and provide regular feedback to the class teacher and SENCO.
  • Help promote positive social interactions and peer relationships within the classroom setting.

Requirements:

  • Experience working with children with autism and/or other special educational needs, particularly those who are non-verbal.
  • Knowledge of and experience in implementing visual communication methods such as PECS (Picture Exchange Communication System) or Makaton.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build rapport with children, parents, and colleagues.
  • Patience, empathy, and a genuine passion for supporting the learning and well-being of children with special needs.
  • Relevant qualifications in special education, teaching assistance, or a related field are desirable but not essential.
  • An enhanced DBS (Disclosure and Barring Service) check will be required for this position.
