About the Role:

This key role involves working directly with our secondary school students (typically ages 11-16 or 11-18, depending on your school's age range) to promote their personal, social, and emotional development. As our Youth Worker in Blackpool, you will play a proactive role in fostering positive relationships, resilience, and engagement amongst our young people. Your responsibilities will include:

  • Providing one-to-one and group support to students on a range of issues, including social skills, peer relationships, emotional regulation, and general well-being.
  • Designing, planning, and delivering engaging youth work programmes, workshops, and extracurricular activities within the school.
  • Acting as a trusted adult and mentor, offering guidance and a safe space for students to discuss concerns.
  • Identifying and responding to the needs of vulnerable students, working closely with the safeguarding team, pastoral leads, and external agencies in Blackpool.
  • Supporting students through key transitions (e.g., from primary to secondary, or secondary to further education/employment).
  • Encouraging student voice and participation in school life and decision-making.
  • Liaising effectively with parents/carers and other school staff to ensure a holistic approach to student support.
  • Maintaining accurate and confidential records of interactions and interventions.
  • Contributing to the positive ethos and culture of the school community in Blackpool.

The Ideal Candidate Will Have:

  • A qualification in Youth Work, Social Care, Education, or a related field (e.g., Level 3 or above in Youth Work Practice, relevant Diploma/Degree).
  • Proven experience working directly with young people aged 11-18, ideally within a school or youth club setting.
  • A strong understanding of adolescent development and the challenges faced by young people today.
  • Excellent communication, interpersonal, and active listening skills, with the ability to build rapport and trust with young people.
  • Demonstrable experience in planning and delivering engaging activities and programmes.
  • Knowledge of safeguarding and child protection procedures and a commitment to keeping children safe.
  • Ability to work proactively, independently, and as part of a multidisciplinary team.
  • A resilient, empathetic, and non-judgemental approach.
  • Familiarity with local youth services and support networks in Blackpool is desirable.
  • Strong organisational and administrative skills.
