Teaching Assistant - SEMH Specialist School - Northamptonshire

Are you a natural mentor with a passion for supporting young people with Social, Emotional, and Mental Health (SEMH) needs?

Tradewind Recruitment Northampton is currently recruiting for enthusiastic and supportive Teaching Assistants to work in SEMH schools across Northamptonshire. These settings cater to pupils aged 7-16 with a range of emotional and behavioural challenges, often including trauma, anxiety, ADHD, or other complex needs.

Role overview:
As an SEMH Teaching Assistant, your role will be vital in supporting students both academically and emotionally. You will help create a safe, consistent, and nurturing learning environment where students can build self-esteem, trust, and the confidence to re-engage with education.

Key responsibilities:

  • Supporting behaviour management and emotional regulation

  • Mentoring pupils on a 1:1 or small group basis

  • Working collaboratively with pastoral and teaching staff

  • Using positive behaviour support strategies

Ideal candidate:

  • Background in youth work, mental health, or residential care is a bonus

  • Resilience, compassion and patience are essential

  • Experience with challenging behaviour or safeguarding is desirable

  • Must be flexible and proactive
