An innovative Alternative Provision (AP) school in Blackpool is seeking a dedicated Outdoor Education Lead / Instructor to join their team. This is a unique opportunity to make a profound difference in the lives of vulnerable students on a Temp-to-Perm basis, providing crucial full-time support.
The Role: Transformative Outdoor Learning
You will be instrumental in designing and delivering tailored outdoor learning experiences that foster personal growth, improve behaviour, and re-engage students who often face complex Social, Emotional, and Mental Health (SEMH) or behavioural challenges.
Program Design & Delivery: Plan, prepare, and lead a diverse range of engaging outdoor education activities (e.g., Forest School, DofE, bushcraft, adventure activities, environmental projects).
Behaviour & Engagement: Utilise outdoor settings as a powerful tool for behaviour management, de-escalation, and developing resilience, self-esteem, and teamwork skills.
Curriculum Integration: Contribute to students' broader educational and therapeutic plans, adapting activities to meet individual needs and EHCP objectives.
Risk Management: Conduct thorough risk assessments and ensure all activities adhere to the highest safety standards, maintaining equipment and facilities.
Mentorship: Act as a positive role model, building strong, trusting relationships with students to support their emotional well-being and re-integration.
Essential Requirements
Significant experience in the planning and delivery of Outdoor Education programs, particularly with children and young people (aged 11-16).
Proven ability to work effectively with students exhibiting challenging behaviour, SEMH needs, or other complex SEN, ideally within an AP or SEN setting.
Relevant National Governing Body (NGB) qualifications (e.g., Forest School Leader, Mountain Leader, Archery Instructor, Paddle Sports Instructor) or equivalent professional certifications.
Exceptional resilience, patience, creativity, and a non-judgmental approach.
A valid UK Driving Licence is highly desirable (and potentially essential for off-site activities), with access to a vehicle an advantage.
The Offer
Salary: Up to £30,500 per annum, dependent on qualifications and experience.
Contract: Full-Time, Temporary initially, with the strong intention to convert to a Permanent contract.
Start Date: Monday 3rd November 2025, but we are eager to appoint the right candidate sooner if available.
Location: Blackpool Alternative Provision.
